Cave exploring is a pretty intense workout
We’ve got the treadmill pacers, thumping away and watching the numbers roll by. We’ve got the Zumba crowd enjoying their Latin beats and sweating away. Then there’s the other traditional sports, softball league, basketball pick up, biking down a country road. But what if your workout is a little bit out there?
Does your workout have to fit in?
When I started hooping I thought it was fun, burned calories and toned my abs and arms quite nicely thank you. I didn’t realize I was going to get bombarded with quizzical looks, eye rolls, and outright laughter. How could something that kooky help you be healthy? And hooping isn’t that out there!
There are so many ways to move your body and there is no wrong way. As long as it doesn’t hurt and you’re having fun keep doing it. To put it another way, according to the book “Born to Run” as many as 65% of runners sustain some sort of injury in any given year. Doesn’t participating in a sport that has a 65% injury rate seem crazy?
Here’s another statistic to chew on. Only 15% of the US belongs to a gym at any given time and just because you have a membership doesn’t mean you actually go. If only 15% are members what are people doing for exercise?
OK, ok, throw the 66% overweight/obese number in my face, yeah I know, a whole bunch of people aren’t doing anything, they’re just sitting on their butts. But there’s a bunch more who are doing things, a myriad of things.
Maybe you should give it a whirl …
So try acrobatics, spelunking, skateboarding, kayaking, polo, surfing, hooping, etc. Whatever makes you happy is what you’ll stick to.
What crazy fitness thing do you like to do? Do you wish you could do it more? What would you like to try that seems daring and cool?
Let me know, I’d love to hear your options,
Lisa
