You guys know MizFit, right? If not, pop over to her blog and check out. Basically, she rules. MizFit recently created My Trainer Fitness 100-Calorie Workouts. They’re a pack of 6 cards, and each card lists a series of exercises that can be done in 20 minutes and will burn off about 100 calories. (MizFit also created an At Work version that you can do in the office!) The workouts featured are circuit training style, which maximizes fat-burning and cardiovascular results in the least amount of time by moving quickly from one exercise to the next with little rest in between....

Hello again Let’s jump right in, shall we?! Saturday was a pretty busy day for me. I had a group of about 12 runners coming over that evening for a pre-half marathon carb and hydrate party and I had a huge to-do list that looked a little something like this: Shower, get dressed. Go to Lisa’s house and pick up the salad she made for the party, then drop it all over my basement floor (ok- that was not in the plan but it...

A couple of weeks ago, the social media folks from Nordstrom contacted me about a national get-fit event at all of their stores called The Zella Movement. Customers were invited to come into Nordstrom stores for a day of fun and fitness activities. Each store offered something different— from yoga to boot camp classes. I received this email from the Nordstrom location on the South Shore: On Saturday, May 21st bring your friends and become Zella Zellots (enthusiasts) at an inspiring day of fitness, fashion and fun at our Nordstrom at South Shore Plaza. First up an instructor will get...

These guys can cure cancer and win the war on obesity. If we let them. The power of the white coat can’t be underestimated. Even though we don’t see our doctors as much as other influencers in our lives, their words can spur us into action. A recent study found that 65% of patients will try to slim down after their doctor tells them they should. On the other hand only 39% of people attempt to diet if their doctor doesn’t suggest any action. It’s estimated that obesity accounts for $90 billion in direct health care costs annually in the...

When you run, your body repeatedly impacts with the ground and one body part presses on, pulls on, pushes against, or tends to compress or twist another body part. Do too much and your body will succumb to the stress of running with an overuse injury. Perfect your training regimen and you will be rewarded with higher levels of performance. The objective of training is to remain below the limits where stress becomes damaging, but to approach our individual limits. The overload principle of training is to train up to your body’s threshold. Get the formula correct and your body...
