What a beautiful day in Boston! I thought the rain would never end! Hooray for sunshine! I planned to go to Body Pump this morning, but when I arrived at the gym, I learned that the 10:30 class was taken off the schedule. Boo. I guess I missed the memo. Since I was already at the gym, I stayed and did 40 minutes on the elliptical and then headed home to do MizFit’s My Trainer Fitness 100-Calorie Workouts. I grabbed my set of 10-pound dumbbells and got to work on the back porch. I ended up doing the Day 2...

You guys know MizFit, right? If not, pop over to her blog and check out. Basically, she rules. MizFit recently created My Trainer Fitness 100-Calorie Workouts. They’re a pack of 6 cards, and each card lists a series of exercises that can be done in 20 minutes and will burn off about 100 calories. (MizFit also created an At Work version that you can do in the office!) The workouts featured are circuit training style, which maximizes fat-burning and cardiovascular results in the least amount of time by moving quickly from one exercise to the next with little rest in between....

Last week, LauraJane reflected on her “healthiness journey,” and realized what a significant role blogging and reading blogs has played in that journey. She then wrote post called Five Bloggers That Have Changed My Life. One of the blogs she mentioned in her post was my marathon recap. Similarly, a number of posts have inspired me and stuck with me over the years, so here are the blog posts that have changed me. Thanks for the inspiration, Laura Jane! The New ELR (Don’t Leave Me, Please) Back in the day, the majority of “healthy living blogs” were all the same:...

Check out the newest CNC feature! My buddy, Ryan, set up two new widgets on the far right column of my blog where you can find random posts and posts from a year ago. New readers especially might enjoy this feature because they can catch up on old posts. I also really like this new feature and spent a good hour looking through old posts last night. It’s fun to look back on a different time in my life. Lunch I had a lunchtime dentist appointment (no cavities!!), so I ate a small lunch before leaving for it. I had...

What do Donald Trump, Boy George, and Murphy all have in common? They all share the same birthday, which is TODAY! My little pug is two years old! Here’s Murphy the day we took him home: I can’t get over how tiny he was! He’s such a monster pug now! If you were reading CNC a year ago, you might remember this post: We’re Terrible Parents. It’s because Mal and I totally forgot about Murphy’s first birthday. A whole week went by before we remembered, so we made sure to make a big deal out of his birthday this year....

Hey, there! After the Back on My Feet breakfast this morning, I felt inspired to run, so I grabbed my Garmin, iPod, and set out for a few miles around my neighborhood. It felt so great to get outside and run. (Mal just told me that my head looks like a light blub in the photo above. He always seems to know what to say!) I usually run the same few routes near my house, but I branched out today and discovered a new one, which was scenic, but pretty hilly. After Saturday’s 10K, I definitely need to incorporate more...

Happy birthday to Back on My Feet Boston!!! This morning, I had the pleasure of celebrating this milestone with members of the BOMF Boston community at a Birthday Breakfast, which was held at the Renaissance Boston Waterfront Hotel. It was a morning of celebration, inspiration, and a chance to applaud the many accomplishments of members, volunteers, and supporters, who have changed lives through the program. Last year, I attended this same event, but I wasn’t nearly as involved with the organization, so this morning’s breakfast meant so much more to me. I’m not going to lie, I got a little...

If you’re a longtime reader of Carrots ‘N’ Cake, you know that I have a small huge obsession with hotels. For some reason, I just love them. Over the years, I’ve written dozens of reviews, which you can read here: Hotel Reviews. Here’s another one to add to the list! About a month ago, I used Priceline to score a sweet deal on a 4-star hotel in Midtown Manhattan. It’s “Name Your Own Price” option allows you to name the price you want to pay for a hotel room. You can select a general location and service level (i.e. 5-star), but...

Wow! What a fun-filled weekend! Running, friends, good beer, and good food— everything I could have ever wanted on a vacation! After the Mini 10K and brunch, I headed back to the hotel to quickly shower and get Mal. We had plans to meet friends at Blind Tiger in about an hour, so I really needed to boogie to get ready. Thankfully, I fully embrace the wet hair look! Blind Tiger is an ale house on Bleecker Street in the Village that serves a variety of draft and bottled beers, so, of course, I was excited to visit. Yesterday, Blind Tiger...

Well, I can sum up Saturday’s NYRR Mini 10k in two words: hills and humidity. The combination of the two made for a really tough race, but I crossed the finish line with a smile on my face. And, really, isn’t that the best part about running a race? I love running in Central Park, but those hills kill me every time! I didn’t arrive in New York City until late Friday night, so Theodora picked up my race number for me. We made plans to meet the next morning, so I met her and some other blog friends before the race....
