Crocs Go Chameleon
Posted on May 16, 2011 | No CommentsEver since Laurel became upwardly mobile, I couldn’t help but notice the proliferation of Crocs on kids, but Laurel never showed much interest (save the collecting potential of jibbitz) due to her desire for all things girly. And apparently it’s amazing what a flower cut out and the right colors can do. I recently received a pair of Crocs Chameleons Shirley Girls to test out with Laurel and she pretty much wore them for three days straight out of the box. Comfortable (Laurel immediately tore down the sidewalk as soon as she put them on) and girly, the additional hit...Continue Reading...

Let’s Go Fly a Kite
Posted on May 13, 2011 | No CommentsI hope the rain holds off this weekend because ever since our recent overnight to Maine (where Laurel flew her first kite last summer), I’ve been thinking about kites. And tomorrow (May 14, 12-4pm) is the Franklin Park Kite & Bike Festival, where families can fly kites (BYOK; they’ll also be giving away kites to the first 50 attendees) and/or “rent” bikes for free. Meanwhile, I’m browsing Into the Wind, which offers a crazy selection of kites. I especially like that they break out sections for beginner and kids kites (read: easy to fly models). And in the show kite...Continue Reading...

Magic Spinach Pie
Posted on May 12, 2011 | No CommentsThough Laurel has been more experimental with vegetables since we embarked on our CSA journey last year, green vegetables (save cucumbers) remain a sticking point. Until recently, when my sister Jenn brought over a spinach pie and Laurel shocked me by both offering to try it (usually I have to ask) and loving it. So of course I was eager to find an easy recipe to take advantage of this new love. And I found it in Nick Stellino’s Mediterranean Flavors (notably also the source of this moussaka recipe Laurel loves). The thing that struck me about the pie Jenn...Continue Reading...

10 Things My Mom Taught Me
Posted on May 11, 2011 | No CommentsA few days ago, Jenna wrote a really sweet post about the things her mom taught her. I loved the idea, so I decided to do the same. Two wrongs don’t make a right. No meal is complete without a piece of cat (or dog) hair in it. Pay attention to unit price and it will get you the best deal. There’s nothing nutritious about soda. The directions in the box aren’t the only way to play the game. On occasion, it’s okay to eat half of a batch of brownies. There are better things to watch on TV than Star Trek....Continue Reading...

Mothers Day Deliciousness!
Posted on May 10, 2011 | No CommentsHey guys!! Yes, I took a big break…I spent the weekend with family and friends and honestly…it was just what I needed. You know I have talked about getting that balance back in my life that I so dearly missed as the hardcore prep for my competition began, and I am happy to say I am getting there slowly but surely. Its hard to just come off of this plan and all of the sudden get back to ‘normal life’ and ‘normal eating’ I will say that each day gets better and I am so looking forward to having an amazing summer...Continue Reading...

Mother’s Day Love!
Posted on May 8, 2011 | No CommentsHello everyone!!!! I hope you all have had a fantastic Mother’s Day! Mine started with a beautiful 5 mile run this morning around the Charles River!!! Before my run I had a mini Luna bar for some fuel. I had an amazing run! I felt like I was flying the whole time. It is unbelievable the difference I feel now that I have been getting a treatment. I did the 5 miles in 47:21. That is a whole 8 minutes faster than my last 5 miles run. I am really kicking myself for not getting myself checked out sooner, but... -
Happy Mother’s Day to all our "Haute Mamas!"
Posted on May 8, 2011 | No CommentsHello Mamas, I always laugh to myself when people wish me a Happy Mother's Day. It's Mother's Day everyday. Isn't it? I was at a Kentucky Derby Party last night and found myself and my girlfriends talking about being pregnant and giving birth. Some of us liked being pregnant and some of us didn't. Some enjoyed giving birth and some of us not so much. We all however agreed as hard as it is somedays/most days raising children. Being a Mom is our biggest joy and grandest achievement! Today Kate and I along with our daughters and countless other Haute...Continue Reading...
