My beautiful new studio … the stress of moving cost me a few pounds
When you decide to write a blog post about gaining weight it involves a lot of stalling. I keep checking twitter, facebook, my bellybutton … sigh.
So, here we are, yup … just you and me … and the internet … forever … and, I, erm, gained some weight recently. I know people in the fitness industry aren’t supposed to do this, but here I am, I’m in my “fat” jeans and they’re straining a bit. Wow, it doesn’t feel good.
I had about five pounds to lose on February 1st and I had just finished the 4 Hour Body plan. I was rocking skinny jeans and kept pointing out to my husband that I was pretty darned hot. He was nodding in agreement, not in the “placate your wife kind of way” but in the “yup, I’m a lucky man kind of way.” It was pretty cool … then the following things happened …
- Family vacation with extended family = 4 lbs.
- Find new studio location and tell current location I’m leaving = 2 lbs.
- Lose new studio location have to beg current location to stay = 3 lbs.
- Find another new location and tell current location (again) that I’m leaving = 2 lbs.
- In the middle of all this take on new social media job I never should have said yes to = 2 lbs.
- Finally move into new space, ditch social media gig, and pray clients move with me = 2 lbs.
All has worked out spectacularly well. My new studio space is thriving (I’m so proud!) and our clients all came with us when we moved. We’ve even grown and I’m solvent again for the first time in a long time. Yay! This was about 5 weeks ago and I’ve waited for the pounds to magically melt away in the same manner in which they appeared but nope. It ain’t happening.
So What’s a Trainer to Do?
I’ve called in the cavalry. You guys and Alfonso. Alfonso and I are twitter buds and compadres over at FitStudio.com. I really respect his training style and frankly he scares me. I know I’ll do what he says because the repercussions might be dire. He also does kettlebell training which I’m very curious about and I think doing something new for a while will invigorate my body and help me rekindle my love of exercise. It’s been a little wobbly lately. I will still continue to do Pilates because I simply love it and just couldn’t give it up. My body craves it.
Carrots vs. Stick Training
Lots of people thrive with love, I do too, my family and friends are amazing and I know my peeps have my back. I also know they’d never do anything to harm me so when they help me stay on a plan I don’t take them seriously. Just crack a joke, give ‘em a hug, and shovel another spoonful of ice cream into my mouth. For my accountability to work, I need a stick. So I’m going to be accountable to Alfonso with one-on-one workouts (we’re still figuring out if it’s once or twice a month, we don’t live that close) and some phone coaching and emails. I know Alfonso won’t have a sense of humor if I ditch a workout and “don’t bother” to send a food journal email. Eep.
So if you guys can be the carrot and Alfonso can be the stick that would be a great combination don’t you think? I’ll be blogging weekly about my progress on getting the weight off. But this blog is not going to become a personal weight loss journey, even the weekly updates will have tips that can carry over to you.
So thanks for reading this far and for being your usual supportive selves. There is a prize to all this by the way. Sears has told me they want to shoot some Pilates video in August or so. Maybe I’ll even get a DVD … wouldn’t that be cool?
Cheers,
Lisa
