My son and I just had a conversation about why I didn’t exactly jump up out of bed this morning, and rather covered my head with a pillow and tried to sleep through all the morning demands.
Both kids are home from school. Its School Conferences week, and so I have the privilege of entertaining, feeding, cleaning, and caring for each one. Even the dog is out of sorts with them both home. So, what was my response to him? ”I decided to shirk my obligations as mother, to enjoy a little me time in bed”. He actually seemed satisfied with that answer. Until he realized he asked nothing of me, and said it was my own doing, all the above mentioned items.
He’s right. Yes, they are my obligations, however, I could easily suggest each child make their own bed, do their own laundry, etc. then I could sit and read blogs, plan my Thanksgiving Menu, and sneak in a cup of coffee.
Are these morning rituals of care obligations or are they just that – ritual? Thankfully, I had a fantastic night with all my “K” blog buddies last night, Kelly, Kate and Kim. It was almost like we were the Kardashians minus the bling, Kris and TV Crews.
Eventually a mother must get up. And head right for the blogs of BSW! Thanksgiving is in the air, and in order to plan my meal, it helps to read Lizzy’s blog, Food to Run For, and the Small Boston Kitchen. Well, I suppose I need to feed, clean and rustle-up the children. Off to my afternoon obligations!
Stay healthy, be fit and have fun!
Kathy
