  • Last week, I got an email from Doubletree by Hilton Hotels about the 25th anniversary of their signature chocolate chip cookies.  I stayed at a Doubletree by Hilton in New York City last fall for a girls’ weekend and we had a wonderful time.  There is nothing better than coming back from a day of shopping to complimentary warm chocolate chip cookies.  In fact, Bret and I are staying at the same hotel this coming weekend during our quick trip to NYC and I’m looking forward to our stay. To celebrate this special 25th anniversary, Doubletree by Hilton is launching their...

  • I’ve seen a few different versions of tuna burgers on various food blogs lately.  When I was searching for inspiration for a healthy but flavorful lunch, I decided to try to create my own version and ended up making Lemon Pepper Tuna Burgers. I only used three simple ingredients: 1 can of tuna 1 egg 1/3 cup lemon pepper panko I drained the water from the tuna and mixed the tuna, lemon pepper panko and egg in a bowl with a fork. I warmed up a frying pan on the stove with a tablespoon of vegetable oil.  I shaped the...

  • On Wednesday night, I was lucky enough to attend a blogger party at Aragosta.  This month-old Italian restaurant is located at the Fairmont Battery Wharf hotel and I was really excited to check it out.  The inside of the restaurant was modern and sleek. But on a gorgeous night like Wednesday evening, the real attraction was the terrace, which has a gorgeous waterfront view. Meghan and I were definitely soaking up the sun! The other side of the terrace had comfortable lounge-like areas that include fire-pits, which was pretty cool! I was happy to sip on a glass of crisp...

  • Last week, I was browsing through my recipe binder when I came upon a recipe that I clipped from the Food Network Magazine‘s November 2010 issue for Brussels Sprouts Gratin.  I couldn’t remember the last time I made Brussels sprouts at home and I thought that this would make a perfect dish for lunch. First, I gathered the ingredients: 2 tablespoons salted butter, cut into pieces (original recipe calls for unsalted butter but I didn’t have any on hand) 1 pound Brussels sprouts, outer leaves and stems removed Pinch of red pepper flakes Freshly ground pepper 1/2 cup heavy cream...

  • Last week, I had to make a quick overnight trip to Philadelphia for a memorial service.  I had a bunch of parsley leftover in the fridge from my garlicky lentil soup that I knew would go bad while I was away.  I decided to make a parsley pesto to toss with some pasta.  While this would be delicious alone, I decided to roast some grape tomatoes and add some frozen lima beans to make this dish a little more nutritious and flavorful. First, I got to work on the tomatoes.  I pre-heated the oven to 400 degrees and tossed the grape...

  • This past Saturday, Bret and I headed to South Station to catch a train to Bret’s parents’ house.  We had gotten up with enough time to work out, shower and head out the door but not enough time to have breakfast.  We decided to grab a bite to eat at South Station before we jumped on our train.  While there are a few quick food options in South Station, we knew exactly what we wanted to try – Cheeseboy. Since opening in South Station in the past year, I’ve heard a lot of mixed reviews about this take-out grilled cheese...

  • This past week, it was cold and rainy in Boston, and Bret was feeling a bit under the weather.  I had a bag of lentils in my pantry and I looked up a few warm, hearty lentil recipes to make for dinner.  I let Bret choose which recipe for me to make and he settled upon a recipe for Garlicky Lentil Soup from Epicurious. This recipe was really simple and only required a few ingredients: 8 large garlic cloves 4 cups cold water 2/3 cup lentils 1 tablespoon herbs de Provence (the original recipe calls for chopped fresh thyme leaves...

  • After checking into the Four Seasons, Bret and I spent the afternoon relaxing at the hotel pool and whirlpool.  By the time it was evening, we were both famished for dinner!  I had made reservations for dinner at Mela in the South End, which is just a short walk from the hotel. We arrived in time for our 7 PM reservations but were asked to wait while a table became available.  While I understand that Mela is a small restaurant with limited seating, I was a little frustrated waiting twenty minutes for a table.  I mean, what is the point...

  • While Bret certainly appreciated the oatmeal chocolate chip cookies, I wanted to plan something truly special to help celebrate my new job and to thank Bret for being helping me get to this important decision in my career.  I initially wanted to plan a quick weekend getaway but our schedules are so jam-packed that it seemed impossible.  Instead, I reached out to Lei-Ann Fields at the Four Seasons Hotel and she graciously helped me plan a wonderful celebratory stay-cation this past weekend. I gave Bret vague hints about a surprise date on Saturday and I think I convinced him that...
