Oscar Jewelry and Hairstyles that made History

Jewelry on Oscar night has always been a big statement and more often than not very tastefully done. Some stars have made Oscar history not for what the wore as clothing but what they donned as jewelry.  Stunning chandelier earrings, diamonds, diamonds, and more diamonds for example Elizabeth Taylor at the Oscar’s in 1970 wearing her own jewels bought for her by Richard Burton some say today is worth 120 million.
Occasionally we see a bit of precious and semi-precious stones. Fast forward to 2009 where Angelina Jolie wore Lorraine Schwartz spectacular 115 carat emerald drop earrings and 2012 Golden Globes where Heidi Klum complimented a blush color gown with a stunning turquoise statement necklace.
Hair for the Oscars has always been a throw back to old Hollywood glamour mixed with a modern touch. Simple and beautiful it compliments the dress and jewelry. Depending on the neckline and the construction of the dress up-do’s or soft romantic waves seem like the traditional Oscar hairstyle. Such as Kate Beckinsale and Katherine Heigl below. Or my all time favorite look at the Oscars was in 2008 Julia Roberts.  I remember it to this day the gown was vintage Valentino and everything was perfect.
Jennifer Aniston back in 1999 decided to do a small braid against her forehead and loose long hair. Not many deemed it Oscar worthy more like Beach Day worthy.
Critics panned Jennifer Garners loose up-do in 2008.
As you can see thanks to a simple google search pictures are forever. I’m not sure I would be brave enough to take crazy risks for the Oscars.  I think my choice would be to honor the traditions of past hollywood starlets with a splash of what is glamourous by todays standards.  Maybe it’s that little girl in us that loves an excuse to look and feel like a movie star or a princess.  So when when life give us the chance to do just that I say shoot for the stars and put your best YOU forward!

How does one dress to make Oscar history?

This Sunday is the Super Bowl of movies! That being said Oscar night is the most glamourous night in Hollywood and some say it is the ultimate PR event. With that in mind how does one dress to make history? Many celebrities have made Red Carpet history by dressing avant garde remember Cher in 1988 when she accepted her award for best actress in Moonstruck. She was wearing a barely there creation by Bob Mackie or who could forget Bjork in her Swan dress in 1990.
Then there is Oscar perfection like Grace Kelly wearing Helen Rose in 1956 or Gwyneth Paltrow wearing that memorable pink gown by Ralph Lauren in 1999.
To me confidence is the most important fashion statement on the Red Carpet, you must feel confident and beautiful in what you are wearing. You must ask yourself these questions. Does it work with my body type?  Does it work with my personality? Do I feel comfortable?  When trying dresses on it is important to have many different styles with you in the dressing room, when you put the right gown on it will instantly have you saying yes!
No matter what you decide to wear for the Oscars or any wedding, Charity or formal event wear it with confidence and feel beautiful. Remember it is all about having a presence and making history.
Christina, Kate and I will be lending a hand to our favorite Charity the Ellie Fund this Sunday for their biggest fundraiser oi the year Oscar Night Boston to benefit the Ellie Fund. Will we make history for the better or the worst? Stay tuned…………

Count Down to Swimsuit Season… Will you be ready?

Hello Mamas,

It’s that time of year when Sports Illustrated launches there yearly swimsuit issue, on Valentine’s Day no less! After our significant others put there eyes back into their heads and stop giggling, talking, texting, emailing etc. their friends they remember us. lol!   I don’t buy the issue but do peak online at the girls.  They are young, beautiful and have great genes.  I’m sure they exercise because its their job to be fit as swimsuit models but lets face it Mamas they are in their early twenties. This years cover girl is only 19.  Breathing a sigh of relief the pressure to look like them is off because whether I like it or not I have 20 years on them. I had my time prancing around on the beach in my fake leather bikini, Christina even has a picture somewhere to prove it.  Beautiful and fit looks a little different at ahem almost 40 but not by much when you work hard at it.

Lucky for us now more than ever the inspiration to work out, eat right etc. is so easy to come across. Everyday I see a motivational quote on Facebook, Twitter , tumblr and now Pinterest.

If you haven’t joined a gym yet, DO IT! If you haven’t ending that bad relationship yet, DO IT! If you haven’t gone after that one thing you have been dreaming of, DO IT!  If you only knew the struggles that Christina, Kate and I go through daily you would be amazed, some days its hard to take one step, other days we say to ourselves, DO IT! There is so much positive inspiration out there through social media, use it to become educated, motivated and make your dreams happen!

A year from now you will wish you had started today!

Hurray for Grey + Etsy

So yesterday was all pinks and reds, and lovey, and today is overcast and grey.  Bahh…I just want to stay in bed in my cozies, however, life calls so out of my chic American Eagle sweats it’ll must be.  Chic can be cozy too mamas.  Comfortable doesn’t have to mean a big PINK or JUICY across the bum mamas

This skirt, a chunky cropped sweater + long ribbed tee? Yes please.  And the skirt? $33 on Etsy!  Actually they’re all from Etsy.  *insert fist pump for all the awesome artists that make Etsy so haute*

Oooohhh!!  Ahhh!!! This cozy, gray wrap would pair well with my distressed boyfriend jeans + converse all stars.  Or mamas (you didn’t hear it from moi)…yoga pants! Yes-toss that puffer vest and go with a more streamlined, chic look!

This sweater, good book, couch + a latte.  ’nuff said.

 Keep calm and chillax mamas.
