Last night, Mal and I enjoyed a birthday celebration for our friend, Kaitlyn, at Foundry on Elm in Davis Square. For months, our friends have raved about this place, so I was really excited to experience it for myself.

When we arrived, the bar was hopping! Pretty Things Beer launched their new Field Mouse’s Farewell at Foundry, so there were tons of people crowded around. I thought about trying the new brew, but I went with a Blue Point Toasted Lager instead. I enjoyed this beer— it was medium bodied with sweet, malty flavors— but nothing else really stood out about it. I guess it just didn’t wow me, ya know? It had a nice, clean finish, so I’m sure it would taste wonderful on a hot summer day!

Our group ended up getting a table at the back of the restaurant where it was still pretty busy, but much more quiet. I was surprised how crowded Foundry was on a Monday night!

To start, the six of us shared a plate of Poutine (French fries with cheddar curds and peppery gravy) as an appetizer. I loved the combo of flavors, but my friend said that traditional Poutine typically has more cheddar curds. I could only imagine how delicious THAT would taste!

Our table also shared an order of calamari (really good!) and some freshly baked bread.

For my entrée, I ordered a flatbread pizza with sundried tomatoes, goat cheese, pine nuts, and balsamic reduction. I was a little disappointed that there weren’t a ton of toppings on the flatbread, but the dough made up for it. It was perfectly light and chewy. I’m psyched for leftovers this afternoon!

During dinner, I enjoyed a Clown Shoes Brown Angel, which had tons of malty flavor, but was a tad too hoppy for me. I tend to like more sweet, smooth brews. It was definitely a good beer– just not my thing.

Breakfast
I cuddled with Murphy until about 6:30 this morning, so while I laid in bed, Mal finished off the iced coffee. So, when I walked into the kitchen, he asked if I wanted the good news or the bad news first. I choose with the good news first, which was that I could have Marylou’s iced coffee with breakfast! Ha!
At Marylou’s, I purchased an Almond Joy iced coffee with milk and no sugar.

To eat, I whipped up a batch of Good Food Made Simple steel cut oats. I put the oatmeal puck in a bowl, microwaved it for 3 minutes, and viola! Warm, chewy steel cut oats in minutes. I added chia seeds and a big scoop of peanut butter to my bowl.
