Gaps in Nutrition Knowledge

nutrition knowledgeHappy Monday! Today, I’m getting back on board the Mamavation train. In case you are unaware of the Mamavation campaign, go check out the info at Mamavation.com. You can apply to be a Mamavation mom where you’ll get 7 weeks of support from other moms and professionals too.

Today’s Blogging Campaign focuses on gaps in knowledge specifically in the area of nutrition. Although I am a personal trainer, I am still striving to learn more about good nutrition and the best nutrition to help build a strong and healthy body. It certainly seems like we hear something different in the media nearly every week. I am looking forward to the Mamavation TV program in which the contributing RD Alysa Bajenaru (of Inspired RD) will try to fill the gaps in our nutrition knowledge. For me, I’m working on learning more about the following:

- Foods that contribute to an increased metabolism. Can this be achieved or is it a myth?

- What effect does sugar intake have on metabolism and diet overall? I struggle with sugar addiction so I am very aware of keeping my sugar intake to a minimum, but I’d love to hear more about this from an RD.

What areas about nutrition would you like to know more about?

- Does eating time have a big effect? There is the saying that you should not eat after 8 p.m., but I have read that this is a myth. I’d love to know more about what Alysa thinks about this topic.

Regardless of the gaps in your nutrition knowledge, the following still holds true: Calories count, portion control rules and there’s no substitute for a well-balanced diet and regular exercise. So get moving!
