Welcome Back Oatmeal

I stood in my kitchen for a good five minutes before I decided what I wanted to eat for breakfast this morning. The weather is much cooler today and my stomach was grumbling, so oatmeal sounded very appealing.

In the mix: oats, blueberries, chia seeds, and a big scoop of peanut butter.

And, as always, I enjoyed a glass of iced coffee with vanilla soy milk.

Three Questions Thursday

Here’s this week’s Three Questions Thursday!

In order to increase the number of followers on my blog, I am trying to comment on other ones more frequently. I think it’s the most effective way to get people to visit my blog. A website I came across said to use a link to my blog. Do you have any tips?

I think commenting on other blogs is a great way to get new readers to your blog. I think putting your name, email, and URL in the comment box on a post is the best way to increase your blog’s exposure. Personally, I think it’s sort of tacky when bloggers leave their URL with their comment. It looks like they’re only leaving a comment to publicize their blog and don’t really care about what the post says. I’m all about new bloggers leaving comments on blogs to increase their readership– that’s how I started too– but I’m just not a fan of that tactic. I actually think you can attract more readers by leaving a thoughtful comment instead of a generic one with your URL.

It seems like you and Mal eat really well, but do you spend a lot of money on groceries? I want to eat healthy, but I always end up spending so much money and then the food I buy goes to waste, which means I waste money. Do you have any ideas or tips for this not to happen?

I do! Check out my Grocery Shopping 101 series about how I save money at the grocery store. There’s a ton of helpful info from meal planning to where to find coupons. Definitely check it out!

With regard to our grocery budget, Mal and I generally spend about $300 per month. Our budget is $75 per week, and we almost always come in around that amount. (My Grocery Shopping 101 explains how we do it.) If we go over our budget one week, we try to make it up the next week by cutting back.

I’m running the Vegas Rock N Roll Half with Team Challenge. I’m planning a blogger bake sale as a fundraiser, and I was wondering if you have any advice for hosting one. I’ve never done this before, and I don’t want to mess it up.

A blogger bake sale is an awesome way to raise money! I’ve hosted a number of them on CNC in the past. Here’s my post about How I Raised Money for TNT, which explains how to set up and run the bake sale. Another idea that I wish I used during my fundraising is including a link to your fundraising page at the bottom of all of your emails, so recipants can easily contribute online. It’s a simple way to let people know without soliciting them directly.

Question of the Day

What fall foods are you most excited to enjoy again?

My answer: pumpkin beer (obviously) and cider donuts (give them to meee!).

P.S. CNC was having some issues yesterday, so I’m going to pick a winner for my t-shirt giveaway tomorrow morning. If you haven’t entered yet, you still have time!
